When I got clean back in 1985, I swore I wanted to break all cycles of abuse that had been passed down generationally through my family. I believe plants are just as alive and conscious as animals - and to get food just requires a sacrifice of some kind to get something in your body that's chemical, hormone, etc., free.
I have native American blood, and I've tried a meat free diet, and I get anemic literally and weak. In fact, I do the best on a paleo or even a keto diet.
However, my daughter and I can "feel" the bad vibes even on products that are tested on animals. So we will not buy any products (knowingly anyway - these companies are very tricky in their packaging, but we "feel" it anyway) that test on animals. I give a monthly tithe to a nonprofit "Beagle Freedom Project", and they have a list of companies that test, and don't test on animals you can find here

What nut job even asked for, let alone passed, a law not at least giving a pig on the way to his death water? As for Farmer John's, it's funny how you just "accept" things as a kid. I drove by that slaughterhouse often and I could smell that place for blocks! Even so, remembering the smell of death that wafted for blocks - I would never purchase a Farmer John product. I felt if they were dispatched clean - that smell wouldn't be that bad.
Anyway, I will not give money that contributes to the abuse of another living being period. I was abused as a child, teen and adult by various people. I left my husband to protect my daughter from harm, and as a result, had to be a single mom to give her freedom and safety as a child. Qualities just as important as food and shelter in my book. Plus, I'm not going to march around protesting the abuse and exploitation of children, while sitting down to eat meat that's been tortured and exploited for money.
That's insane - and that's frankly why people get high and drunk - because they can't be in touch with their bodies and the energy that's coming to them. So I consider trying to live as cruelty free as possible part of my recovery and thus spirituality or religion if you will.
So while I'm not Jewish (yet anyway - I say this because I'm becoming SO embarrassed by the church today I'm reconsidering all affiliation with Christians), I appreciate that a rabbi supervises the animals, and also ensuring they do not suffer in death. Some of the people who have helped me the most when I've been struggling have been people of the Jewish faith.
So I've always tried to buy kosher when possible - which got harder when I moved to Las Vegas. I now know about GMO's. I found out about hormones and antibiotics after my stroke caused by these in my food supply. I've learned more about the terminology thanks to Spud Murdock showing what a "free range" chicken really means in the reality of farming. I do NOT want a chicken that's so sick it can't walk. Nor do I want a chicken that's abused on the way to a humane slaughter either. After seeing the way chickens are abused, as well as the farmers - I won't buy a Tyson or Purdue chicken product of any kind.
I just want a humanely raised animal that's had a good life and then dealt with as painlessly as possible when I do eat meat. I'm willing to eat less to buy better quality. More of a cheaper product that contributed to my stroke from chemicals is not an insanity I'm going to repeat.
After seeing the video about Joaquin's vigil and learning about pigs being tortured in transport without water I went looking for ideally an organic, non-GMO, wild or pasture raised, organic feed, humanely raised and slaughtered Kosher website where I could order delivery of this meat.
Since Covid struck, I'm staying inside the house as much as humanely possible. After Walmart gave me their "message" after I got 140,000 signatures to boycott their sales of chocolate made by child labor in Africa and I was drug into a back room and accused of shoplifting after my face was caught on their software - I got the message that if I'm going to walk this walk - then I'm going to be targeted inside major chain stores for harassment. So I prefer to do my shopping now from home. I'll attach a video of my journey in this pursuit for your review and confusion.
It seems there's "organic" and then there's "kosher" - but I can't easily find organic, kosher, non-gmo, and pasture raised humane meat sources without more than a google search. I'll come back and amend this as I make some phone calls.
